Bloody Soup!
haha. XD long time no blogg~ i'm a lazy piggy :)
Went to the blood bank today. Actually, had attempted not to go but needed to find a replacement and couldnt find one, so i went! and boy, i am Glad i went...hahaha
Started off with the normal stuff -- talk by this red cross person, introduction to the place, vids, the works. Yep den we went Off! to the tour. Our tourperson was this woman called Fanny i think.
Lolx, did you noe that you have to be more than 45kg to donate blood? and if you are btw 45-51kg, you give 300ml and if you are more than 51kg, you give 450 ml.
So we walked through the whole thing... I think the testing for iron in your blood was cool! they like prick your finger and take a little blood, actually me doesn't know why they take that amount if all they are going to do is drop it into copper(II) sulphate solution and see if it sinks or floats. But we saw the Real thing! haha cool lorh~
It works like this: If it sinks, you have enough iron (more than 12.5 density) to donate, if it doesn't den cannot donate. yep. Miss Tan, our bio teacher who was there says it has sth to do with having enough iron to form haemoglobin.
haha den went behind the scenes, saw the refriegerators and storage and testing places. The doors were really nice too! those kinds that you pass your hand over a switch and the door auto slide open! funfun! XP some ppl accidentally opened them when we were standing along the corridor listening to the tour woman.
BUT the funniest part was when we were at the freezer area where they store frozen plasma... [>.<] other methods to thaw the blood and i asked miss tan, who was standing next to me, "why don't they microwave it?"
What?! it was asked in all seriousness k...actually no, i remember grinning while asking it. den we started giggling... mich noticed and asked "private joke ah?" and we cracked up even more. in the end, i finally calmed down and asked her ^^ haha i think she was kinda stunned -_- Lolz the whole thing was super funny!! XP Yeahh...hahahahaha, after that we exited and she pointed as the awards and recognition place. It's like a Tree of Life that commerates all the champion donors who get their names onto metal "leaves". I think it's kinda meaningful, except now they have no space and are getting a new River of Life with fishes instead... ^^''

This post is not meant to discourage any person from donating blood. Rather, this person hopes that more people that are not herself will step forward to donate blood. Currently, only 1% of the population donates blood and we only have less than 2 days supply (250 bags x 2) in storage that is not part of the reserve for national emergencies. Compared to HK who has 2 weeks supply and a donor percentage of 3-4%, we are seriously lagging behind.
